Derek McKenzie

Derek is a long-time supporter of the Recovery Street Film Festival, its objectives and ethos. He recognises how effective the medium of film can be in providing people with an opportunity to communicate positive messages around recovery.

Derek has 19 years of experience working with people with substance use disorders. He has worked in a wide range of roles within the treatment sector and in 2014 he launched, established, and ran a London-based, award-winning treatment facility. He has a sincere passion for helping people to reclaim their lives and assisting them to move forward from the consequential outcomes of active addiction.

He chose to go self-employed in 2016 primarily to build on the existing foundations of his academic and professional qualifications which include a Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling, BA Hons in Counselling and a Post Grad Cert in Clinical Supervision. He is currently in the third year of his Doctorate.
